Feeling all the feels that my baby boy is one! I have pictured this moment so many times over the last year & it came so much faster then I thought it would. This year was the fastest year of my life.
I knew we would do something intimate just us because of everything going on with Covid. When I started planning it last month I figured we would be at home, but due to the delays in construction we had the party at my parents house. I believe in divine timing because it was that much more special that we got to do it at their house! I didn’t plan for it, but I’m so grateful it worked out that way. I remember so many of my own birthday parties at their home, so it meant a lot to me to celebrate there on his 1st birthday.
For the decor, I wanted to keep it simple but create a birthday party vibe for carter. I purchased an assorted party pack of balloons & decor beforehand on Amazon. A few days before the celebration, I found a party store in Montreal to blow them up with helium. I had them make 2 bouquets & asked them to leave around 10 to float above the ceiling. The “Happy Birthday” sign I blew up myself & it was super easy to do! The entire pack was $19.99 on Amazon! Linked below!
For the food, I wanted him to do a smash cake but also wanted some sweet treats for Jordan & I to enjoy! My friend Samara offered to make me a smash cake & it was so special. While she wasn’t there physically, it felt like she was still a part of it because she made the cake. If you want to have friends & family be part of it I highly suggest having them bake something. It meant a lot in these times to have that as part of the day.
For the rest of the sweet treats, I served brownies from Edelmans & a delicious cookie cake from Crumbs Mtl. I also placed some dry flowers on the table to make it a little more insta worthy but ironically forgot to take a good pic! Here is a screen grab from my story! You can see the dried flowers on the right near the brownies. The rest of the table decor came in the balloon pack from Amazon I mentioned above!
I also really wanted to have something tangible Carter could look at in a few years from now. So, Jordan & I wrote him a poem & I bought a disposable camera. We will write the poem on one of the photos that’s developed. I also brought my polaroid camera to snap a few extras as well. For all the special moments over the last year, I have taken pics on my polaroid. There’s just something about having tangible pictures, like when we were young.
Here is the poem we wrote to him:
a note for our son on his 1st birthday 🤍
we never would have guessed thinking this was our biggest test
but knowing we brought you into this world has left all our doubts to rest
you fly through the house climbing stairs with no fear
it’s hard to believe its already been a year
we love your smile, laugh and overall disposition
you love to explore, see new things and get yourself into all kinds of positions
we cant wait for what life has for you in store
one thing we are sure of is our love for you continues to grow more and more
