When you’re a new mom, navigating what to buy and what you need can be so daunting and overwhelming! We’ve come up with our top must-have baby items that we couldn’t live without for the first few months of Carter and Capri’s lives.
Fisher Price Sweet Snugapuppy Cradle ‘n Swing
This swing is a lifesaver. It’s like having an extra set of hands when you need it most! There are 2 different recline positions and the swing can sway side to side (Carter’s favourite) or head to toe (Capri’s favourite). You don’t necessarily need this exact swing- there are tonssss on the market. But just having any swing will be a huge help those first few months. We both kept the swing near our desks so that when the babies fell asleep in them, we were able to answer emails and get things done close by.
HALO 926 SleepSack 100-Percent Cotton Swaddle Newborn
If you’ve been following us for the last year, you’ve definitely seen some of Capri’s morning stretch videos! Our mom randomly bought the sleep sack she uses at Walmart to try out and it was Capri’s favourite one by far. We couldn’t find the exact same one online but linked a very similar version. Halo is our favourite sleep sack brand out of all the ones we tried.
Same idea as the swing- just another pair of hands!
Baby Brezza Formula Maker
This product is EVERYTHING! It’s pretty much like a Nespresso for baby formula. You can choose the temperature, amount of formula and it’s pretty easy to clean. Yes formula is made by simply mixing water and the powder BUT at 3:30 am do you really want to be doing that? This works with the click of a button. We both bottle fed and this was a game changer. To hear about our decision to bottle feed listen to our Fed Is Best! First Pospartum Update Podcast.
So this won’t apply to all babies…for example, Capri is obsessed with her pacifier and Carter did not take to it. All babies are different! This pacifier is Capri’s favourite and she is very easily soothed by it. We love the Wubbanub ones because the weight of the stuffed animal helps keep it in her mouth.
This is a portable sleep sound machine and it quickly soothes the baby with a rhythmic “shush” sound. It’s key for long car rides. You can use it while your baby is in the stroller or anywhere you want them to fall asleep.
All babies are different but we really found these items to be crucial for us! Hope it helps any new mamas out there <3
